SUPERBUGS AND DISEASES

We live in a world today where life threatening toxic elements, dangerous environmental pollutants, new potent viruses, drug-resistant bacteria and the constant threat of Pandemics, “Superbugs”, chronic disease, allergies and food borne illnesses are a daily news headline. It has been reported that Salmonella causes over a million infections and approximately one hundred deaths every year in the U.S. Last year, for the first time, New York started air-borne chemical spraying for the West Nile Disease that is contracted from mosquitoes as that particular disease becomes more widespread.

Recent research performed at UCLA has shown a correlation between a deficient level of “macrophages” in the innate immune system and the amount of plaque material that is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. Macrophages are literally the “clean up crew” or janitors of the innate immune system that gobble up waste products throughout the body, including the brain. This research is a first in presenting data that suggest that defective macrophage function within the innate immune system may play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease.
